The Government of South Korea is opening the doors for worldwide students to study in South Korea. South Korea has the best higher education institutions in the world for all types of educational degree programs. There are thousands of Scholarships in 2023/24 in South Korea for International students. The Korean Government announced the scholarship opportunities to study in Korean Universities under The Global Korea Scholarship 2023 program.

The Global Korea Scholarship program is open for worldwide students every year. The 2023 Korean Government Scholarship program is open for Graduate Degree programs in February 2023 and for Bachelors /Undergraduate students applications will open in September 2023. Almost all degree programs are available for study in top-class Korean universities. All the undergraduate and graduate degree programs are taught in the English Language.

Eligibility

Applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to avail of this Global Korea Scholarship under 2023 GKS.

  • Nationality:
    All students and their parents must be from the Partner countries of GKS programs that are invited to take part in this program and must not hold Korean citizenship.
    2. Korean citizens and dual citizenship holders (one who has Korean citizenship and citizenship of another country) are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Age
  1. Undergraduate Student Age: Applicant must be under the age of 25 years.
  2. Graduate Student Age: Should be under 40 years of age at the date of entrance.
  • Health: All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically fit.
  • Academic Requirements:
  • Undergraduate Degree Program: Applicants must clear their High School/Secondary School Education or Equivalent for admission.
  • Masters Degree Program: Applicants must clear their Undergraduate Degree or Equivalent for admission
  • Ph.D. Degree Program: Applicants must clear their Master’s Degree or Equivalent for admission.

 Scholarship Coverage

  1. Fully Tuition Fees
  2. Airfare
  3. Resettlement Allowance – KRW 200,000
  4. A Monthly Allowance – 900,000 KRW ~ 1,000,000 KRW
  5. Language Course Allowance
  6. KRW 20,000 (per month) – Medical Health Insurance

Application materials

  • Proof of citizenship (for both applicant’s and their parents)
    : official certificate issued by the government such as birth certificate and/or family register
  • Certificate of graduation (Bachelor, Master, Doctoral degree)
    : official graduation certificate (or diploma) issued by a university or a government
    : official certificate of expected graduation (*for applicants who are expected to graduate)
  • Academic transcript (Bachelor, Master, Doctoral degree)
    : official transcript issued by a university
  • Proof of Age
    : the additional document issued by a government if none of the submitted documents indicate the applicant’s date of birth
  • Proof of Overseas Korean, proof of Korean citizenship renunciation document, proof of Korean War veteran’s descendant, proof of Korean adoptee document
    : only applicable for relevant applicants
  • certificate of employment
    : only applicable for Korean language teaching professionals

All certificates listed above must be authenticated by a Korean Consulate or apostilled before submission.

How to Apply

The application procedures are similar every year, but there may be slight changes in the country quota, application forms, eligibility, etc., so please read the updated 2023 application guidelines very thoroughly before you apply for the program.

Apply Through Embassy:

  1. Any Field of Studies or Major Except Medicine, Dentistry, Architecture, Pharmacy
  2. The embassy will give the procedure and guidelines of what to do.
  3. Find the Korean Embassy in Your Country & ask them when they will open Applications.
  4. You have to apply before The deadlines because all the Korean embassies in different countries have to send their
    selected nominations to NIIED.

Apply Through University Track:

  1. Only Engineering and Natural Sciences Majors Except for Medicine, dentistry, architecture, the pharmacy can apply this Method.
  2. You have to select a university in the given list of universities by KGSP. Apply to that university. University will nominate you as its KGSP candidate and will send names to NIIED and they will select final candidates.

The deadline of applications depends on University and Embassy application time.
